10 Iconic T-Shirts Inspired by the N.W.A. Feud Between Eazy-E and Dr. Dre

The feud between Eazy-E and Dr. Dre marked one of the most dramatic chapters in hip-hop history, fueling some of the genre’s most memorable diss tracks and ultimately leading to the end of N.W.A. While Ice Cube’s departure due to royalty disputes was the first major blow, the conflict that would truly fracture the group was driven by internal tensions between Eazy-E and Dre, exacerbated by the involvement of N.W.A.’s manager, Jerry Heller.

The N.W.A. Split: A Feud That Shaped Hip-Hop

After Ice Cube’s exit in 1989, N.W.A. continued to release music, including the 1990 EP 100 Miles and Runnin’ and their 1991 sophomore album N**z4Life. However, trouble was brewing behind the scenes. Dr. Dre’s growing dissatisfaction with how Eazy-E and Jerry Heller were managing the group’s finances reached a boiling point, driven in part by the observations of Dre’s bodyguard and future business partner, Suge Knight.

Suge Knight, sensing that Dre was not being compensated fairly, took matters into his own hands. He used his physical presence and street reputation to intimidate Eazy-E into releasing Dre from his Ruthless Records contract, allowing Dre to join forces with Knight to establish Death Row Records. This bold move marked the end of N.W.A. and set the stage for the release of Dre’s legendary solo debut, The Chronic.

In The Chronic’s explosive diss track “Fuck wit Dre Day (And Everybody’s Celebratin’),” Dre made his feelings about Eazy-E crystal clear, accusing his former friend of betrayal. Eazy-E fired back with his own EP, It’s On (Dr. Dre) 187um Killa, featuring the infamous track “Real Muthaphuckkin G’s,” in which he mocked Dre and Snoop Dogg while asserting his place in the industry. Despite their rivalry, the two rap icons reconciled shortly before Eazy-E’s untimely death from complications related to HIV/AIDS in 1995.
